Gourmet coffee is drink of necessity among adults, and surprisingly even teenagers around the world. It is sold in a variety of different styles such as ground, french roast, dark roast, double roast, light roast, and medium roast. Coffee contains the substance known as caffeine is a stimulant and can enhance feelings of well-being, and wakefulness. Consequently, like other stimulants, coffee is addictive and is a type of drug, in that it is psychoactive.

If one is to concede that coffee is legitimately a drug, however, they must also concede the fact that it is a benign one. Though it's benign, it is not without its effects. Some of these effects are more desirable and even useful while others less so. It's worth mentioning that white, black, and green tea contain caffeine as well, though at a substantially decreased concentration. The question that many people then face is: how much is too much, and when is the best time to drink it?

Coffee has a relatively long half-life, and is known to disrupt the circadian rhythm even many hours after it's been drank. For this reason it is critical that you drink it an adequate length of time before bed, and frequently this duration will be much greater in length than one might expect. For most folk this means you probably shouldn't drink coffee any later than noon if you'd like to prevent it from impacting your sleep.

Because of the fact that caffeine is a drug like any other, once tolerance builds many people discover themselves creeping up on an ever higher dose. Instead of imbibing a single cup of gourmet coffee they may have four, or five. The truth is, the more copious amounts of coffee that you imbibe the greater chances are that you'll have some of it still in your blood somewhere by bedtime. This may prevent you from ever achieving that extremely deep, restorative level of sleep.

Coffee isn't all horror and doom, though. Gourmet coffee does have some legitimate benefits as well. Just one such benefit is the unusual effect it has on weight lifting and aerobic endurance. Coffee by one means or another is able to cause a physical boost, which is the reason for which so many athletes consume some before a fitness session. It's also been shown to reduce the risk of stroke in females. Do be careful, though! Consumption of caffeine has also been associated with atrial fibrillation.

Truth be told, it seem that everybody responds to food items differently. Some things that stand out in my mind are nuts and assorted nut products. Then there are people who could consume just about anything.

I know that one of my most "triggering" food items is good old caffeine. My body does a good job of telling me when I have consumed too much caffeine. I get some brutal "caffeine headaches", just to name one side effect.

But being honest here, it would be really difficult for me to start the day without that proverbial morning "cup of coffee". There's just something special, or should I really say stimulating, about that first cup. I truly don't believe I could function without it.

Unfortunately, my consumption of straight up java in the early hours of the day does not go without its unique effects. Caffeine withdrawal is the newly recognized disorder that is getting a lot of attention lately. I guess I really have to be a little concerned about my excessive caffeine consumption.

Speaking only for myself, I know if I don't get my caffeine jolt in the morning and throughout the course of the day, I can be a different person. Associates as well as family members say I am a bit "cranky", and seem to have a short fuse. I tend to disagree, but I am not on the outside looking in.

If it wasn't for those pounding caffeine headaches I have, and a bit of the jitters, I probably wouldn't have any side effects at all. But then again, who wants to deal with them all day. So perhaps there is some truth to this "caffeine withdrawal" disorder they have been speaking about.

What we do have to remember is that everybody is different. Caffeine may not bother you as it does me. Checking with a physician is always a good idea if you are having any symptoms. I know for me it would be a tough thing to give up. But if less side effects is a goal, I just might have to concede.

There are so many things now that pregnant women are told not to eat or drink that the mind boggles. One of the first ones that we give the elbow to is caffeine. This is often very difficult as we are well used to our daily consumption of coffee. It's the feat of causing damage to our unborn child that keeps us focused and able to give it up.

The key question is; how much caffeine is safe to consume on a daily basis? Well, the experts tell us that anything under 300mg a day is fine. This roughly equates to an 8 ounce cup.

So how much can we drink and still stay safe? 1 8 ounce cup filled with strong coffee is fine, as this gives you 300mg of caffeine that you have to stick to.

The first trimester is the time when you have to be extra careful anyway, and more than 300 milligrams of caffeine can further increase the risk of suffering carriage.

Yet another good reason for giving up caffeine is the fact that it is a stimulant. This means that it increases your heart rate and can also cause headaches and insomnia. Both if these can put unnecessary stress on your unborn child.

All of us have drank coffee at some time or another to keep us awake, as it is a stimulant. The side effects of this, however, are a raised heart rate, headaches and insomnia.

To sum it up, cutting out caffeine altogether is highly recommended, but if you feel that you still need your coffee, keep to guidelines of 300mg per day or less.

There is a great misconception regarding decaf. Although the amount is greatly reduced, it does still contain caffeine. So by changing you can have an extra cup or two, but don't drink it in the quantity that you used to or you will go way over your 300mg without even realizing it.

Making an excellent cup of coffee depends on numerous things like the quality of the coffee bean, the caliber of the water being used, the kind of brewing being done, along with the grind of the coffees. Right now the condition associated with the bean and water are some things you can quickly deal with. Simply use good condition coffee beans in addition to clean water. Nevertheless the common relationship between the particular grind for the coffee and the kind of brewing being done is usually more descriptive and so could feature a little explanation. Straight away we all know that we make coffee by simply passing very hot drinking water through smashed coffee beans. Nonetheless to get it to really work nicely you must understand just how long the drinking water needs to be passing over the coffee beans. The reason for this article will be to help you realize how to match up your coffee's grind with the kind of brewing you do so that you can enjoy the best coffee possible.

In many instances, the 'soaking' duration applies straight to exactly how coarse the actual coffee is ground. Which means that scaled-down coffee grinds demand a lesser amount of contact with the drinking water, and thus rougher grinds demand longer contact. Espresso coffee should be subjected to standard water for 20-40 secs and because of that is made using extremely fine grind coffee. A French press coffee machine usually takes around 4 or so minutes and makes use of an exceptionally coarse grind. If coffee is left contacting water for too long with regard to the coffee's grind size, unwanted extracts emerge and make the coffee taste bitter. Needless to say if the grind is simply too large and the drinking water goes by rapidly (like making use of french press grind in an espresso machine), hardly any of the particular caffeine and flavours extract and definitely will have poor flavor.

Certainly filters play a significant purpose in handling the balance between over and under preparing coffee. Not solely do they keep the grind out of the cup, nevertheless they additionally control precisely how rapid the drinking water moves over the grinds. Traditional filters are generally the most typical, but some individuals are also making use of metal varieties. Traditional filters are very beneficial. Nonetheless they might soak up much of the coffee flavour, and several folks state they can taste the paper within the finished coffee. Metal filters are typically made from stainless steel or gold plated mesh. They have got especially good weave and separate out your coffee grinds very well. They likewise don't change the actual taste with the coffee at all. Metal filters are usually much more beneficial to our environment when compared with the paper alternative.

Whichever you choose, make sure to purchase decent condition filters. Inexpensive filters often clog or not allow the coffee to be able to brew thoroughly. A good metal filter will last years plus preserve money in the end.

Making a cup of coffee is not really that hard. Making a great cup usually takes a tad bit more understanding, however is not any more difficult. Start with fresh coffee beans and good clean water and then complement your brewing style to the proper grind and pickle around with the specific proportions and very shortly you will be preparing killer coffee every time.

specialty flavoured coffee is now accessible via gourmet coffee online, the one sthe highest resource for best quality premium coffee at the lowest costs.

Coffee has been our partner to really start the day and keep us on top of our feet. Ever since the 21st century, sleeplessness and productivity is a trend today since that is the key to success as most professionals see it. So they drink coffee to stay up for a couple of hours at night to do their reports or just take coffee to let them stay awake at mornings. But don't you know that too much coffee is bad for your adrenal fatigue nutrition?

Caffeine today also doesn't exist in just coffee. Even apples, teas and colas have caffeine. There are even caffeine pills which you only pop in your mouth to get your needed fix.

Too much of drinking coffee and taking up caffeine in your body can cause irregular hear palpitations. Although it makes you alert, but after that caffeine fix it would increasingly drop your mental alertness. Also research states that caffeine is addictive, thus it will hook you on drinking cup after cup of coffee.

Obesity is also associated with caffeine and it could wake you up the entire night, thus disrupting your sleeping habit. It will also give you migraines and makes you lose your appetite. Since caffeine has the ability to keep you temporarily active and awake, you may tend to ignore the need to have sufficient rest and sleep. Caffeine may perk you up for a while but too much of it may affect your well-being in the long run.

Certainly too much of it could ruin your health. So, the solution is to decide to tone down the intake of coffee or caffeine to have a better lifestyle. Get enough sleep and nourish your body with healthy food and supplements. Isn't this what our ancestors taught us since the beginning of time? Well, time to go back to the basics.

There are many people who are not really aware of the many benefits that coffee beans have. That is why they often ask what use are whole coffee beans when you can pick up pre-ground coffee in a jar. That's a valid point if you're a fan of bland, flat tasting, coffee flavored hot water.

The truth is that there are over twenty to thirty types of coffee beans. There are however mainly two types of coffee beans are the others are just variations of grades and brands. If you are an avid coffee drinker then there are changes that you are already familiar with a great number of them.

The most popular and preferred type of coffee beans is scientifically called "coffea Arabica". It is widely consumed by up to seventy percent of coffee drinkers who prefer it over other types of coffee mainly because of its smooth texture and good taste. However Coffea Arabica as it is called is significantly more expensive owing to the special growing conditions required to grow this type of coffee.

Coffee Arabica plants need a certain altitude in which they can thrive which should be at least a few thousand feet above sea level. These plants should also be grown in a temperature between 65- 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Coffee Coffea Canephora makes up between thirty to forty percent of the world's coffee consumption.

Coffea canephora are often used as fillers for coffea Arabica beans, which because Arabica is expensive, are often mixed with these lesser quality coffee beans. So most of the time when you buy coffee beans it's coffea Arabica mixed with Robusta in order to bring it within the reach of common people.

This is why Robusta will almost always be found in most coffee mixtures. Keep in mind that a cup of coffee is only as good as the coffee bean. Coffee made from freshly ground coffee beans of medium quality will outshine even premium ground coffee that has been sitting on the shelf too long. After you buy coffee beans make sure to store them in air tight container.

While it may be easier and cheaper to grab a big jar of ground coffee, ask yourself whether you're actually enjoying the taste of your coffee. If the answer is no, you should probably consider whether it's better to buy coffee beans that are fresh and grind them as you need. Most coffee grinders are reasonably priced and can, along with fresh coffee beans, can make the difference between a great cup of coffee and a stale, unpleasant tasting brew.

Picking a home coffee machine can be difficult. It isn't a decision that you should be making unless you are doing many fact finding. Not all coffee machines are right for everyone many people may prefer coffee pods many may not.

Did you know that the more bitter the taste of the coffee, the longer ago the beans from which the coffee was made had been roasted? Rather than drink burnt-tasting coffee, you can save both money and time by roasting your own. The beauty of roasting your own coffee beans using a coffee bean roaster is that you can control the amount of roast that you apply to your beans and thereby affect the taste of the coffee you brew.

As soon as 24 hours after roasting, even the most expensive coffee beans begin to lose their robust flavor and aroma. So the next time you visit a gourmet market to purchase your whole coffee beans, ask yourself whether the price is worth it, considering that the beans have been sitting out there in those cutesy burlap bags exposed to the air. Unless you know for sure that the beans were just roasted and you can get them packaged in specially designed coffee bags, it may not be worth your hard-earned money.

If you're a coffee enthusiast, you'll be pleased to know how quick and easy it is to roast your own coffee beans at home. There's a favorite expression among coffee lovers, that life's too short for bad coffee. Truer words were never spoken, especially after you've experienced the flavor of coffee prepared from freshly roasted gourmet coffee beans. While you can certainly roast coffee beans using just an old fashioned crank style popcorn popper, it can take a while and produce uneven roasting. A faster and better option is using a home coffee roasting machine.

If you've got a bit of time and patience, you can learn to roast your own coffee beans using a stovetop popcorn maker with a crank, lke the ones you used to see when you were a kid. While they work well enough, you need to know how to judge doneness by the sound of the beans cracking and their aroma. That's not always a sure bet, so using a coffee bean roaster is the better way to go. There are two types that are geared for the home market, fluid bed roasters and radiant drum roasters.

Most people will be happy to start off with the fluid bed roaster. These are easy to use and clean and work somewhat like a hot air popcorn popper. Using heated air, the coffee beans are circulated within a roasting chamber for even and quick roasting. Most fluid bed coffee bean roasters have a glass roasting chamber that you can see the beans as they roast and check to see if they are roasted to your liking.

Coffee bean roasters come in many sizes and styles and range in price from under $100 to nearly $1,000, all depending on the amount of beans that you want to roast at any given time. You can find coffee bean roasters in retail sites and stores all around the country as well as online stores.

Choosing a home coffee machine can be difficult. It is not a choice that you should be making without doing many research. Not all coffee machines are right for everyone many people may prefer coffee pods many may not.

Energy drinks and health in the same sentence? They are usually loaded with caffeine, artificial sweeteners (Aspartame Controversy, Taurine and to make everything seem OK, artificial vitamins. This cocktail is toxic and has already started to cause serious health problems.

More and more people that consume the traditional energy drink regularly or even daily have already or are destined to eventually suffer from stomach, kidney, liver or heart problems. Not to mention the effects these chemical cocktails can have on one's teeth (premature enamel degradation) or skin (dehydration related blotching).

An entire new generation is coming into adulthood without their parents' coffee routine, but with a morning, afternoon or evening energy drink. Sometimes all three. Many spend hours online gaming, instead of exercising, which accentuates the problem with energy drinks, introducing type 2 diabetes and other sedentary diseases.

Why should we worry about this new breed of stimulants? One could say that a cup or two of coffee every day has never caused serious health effects. This is because coffee gets its buzz from natural coffee beans. Not from the chemical laboratories that produce synthetic caffeine.

Just like with any other product found in nature, the caffeine in the coffee beans comes with many by-products which are not easily separated from the pure caffeine elements. natural caffeine comes with fibers and other organic substances which reduce the absorption of the caffeine into the bloodstream.

In most energy drinks, the caffeine is synthetically produced in a factory, usually in India or China. This synthetic caffeine has one advantage over natural caffeine: it is extremely potent. All of the natural byproducts that come with natural caffeine from coffee beans or Guarana are not present with laboratory caffeine. It is also much cheaper to produce than natural caffeine, another great thing, from the manufacturer's point of view. Unfortunately, from a consumer's point of view, this concentrated caffeine blast is absorbed into the bloodstream almost as soon as it hits the stomach.

Natural caffeine, on the other hand, is more gradually absorbed into the body. It is also less potent and therefore less toxic than artificial caffeine. There are two distinct advantages that come from a more natural stimulant (whether it be tea, coffee or Guarana). The first is that the period of heightened alertness will be longer. Instead of the huge instantaneous rush you get from energy drinks and then the commensurate crash an hour later, you get a sustained feeling of alertness for a few hours and the effect tends to wear off just as gradually.

Secondly, continuous exposure to synthetic caffeine over saturates our nervous system. If this excessive exposure continues, our nerves go haywire. This is Mother Nature's way of telling us to be careful. Our hands may quiver, nervous habits develop; our body starts to show signs of stress not different from those related to anxiety or depression. Not recommended for anyone.

With natural caffeine or guaranine, the body can more easily flush out the excess quantities and not overtax the nervous system. But even with natural caffeine, one must use moderation. It is best to stick with one regular cup of coffee or tea (not the large Starbucks which is really like 6 coffees) or one 12 oz can of a natural energy drink or unsweetened cold tea.

Organic coffees don't contain any of the chemicals used in large farming operations. Whole Foods Markets has a wide variety of these.

Two natural energy drinks that I like are GURU Energy Drinks from Canada and Syzmo from the US. They are made exclusively with natural caffeine from Guarana and/or coffee. The big plus for GURU is that its Organic and doesn't have added vitamins. Syzmo is excellent quality but much more expensive, and the taste needs getting used to. GURU has an all natural low-cal energy drink sweetened with Stevia called (GURU Lite), which is an added bonus (see my post on Benefits of Stevia: (ref: For Dollars (will) Authorize (FDA)).

With cold teas; naturally brewed products provide anti-oxidants in addition to the natural caffeine. A brand I like is ITOEN. They have some unsweetened products with a unique taste that grows on you after a while. Teas Teas.

by Dr. Jones

Why should we be concerned about this new variety of mental stimulant? A cup or two of coffee every day has never caused serious health effects. The big difference relates to where the buzz comes from: natural coffee beans vs. laboratory produced synthetic caffeine.

Like most natural substances, the caffeine in the coffee beans cannot easily be separated as a distinct molecular structure. It comes with many other elements, including fibrous membranes, which actually reduce the speed of absorption of the active caffeine.

With these newly concocted energy drinks, the caffeine is produced in sleek factories, usually in Europe or Southeast Asia. This synthetic caffeine is definitely much better than natural caffeine in one regard: it is much more potent. All of the organic substances that come with the coffee or Guarana or tea do not exist with factory produced caffeine. Artificial caffeine is also less expensive to make than natural caffeine, another great thing for the large corporations that make it. Unfortunately for consumers, this highly potent and toxic caffeine is absorbed into our body as soon as it hits the digestive system.

Natural products like Guarana or tea, on the other hand, are absorbed more slowly by the body. They are also less concentrated and therefore less poisonous than the white powdered caffeine. There are a few advantages with the natural versions of caffeine (whether it be in coffee, tea or Guarana). Firstly, the duration of the increased mental clarity will be longer. Instead of the instant buzz you get from most energy drinks and then the inevitable crash, you get a prolonged feeling of alertness for a several hours and the effect eventually wears off gradually.

Advantage #2 has to do with the jitters. Concentrated exposure to potent artificial caffeine tends to over saturate one's nervous system. If overexposure is repeated, nervous system goes haywire. Nature's way of saying: Enough! Hands shake, nervous tics develop; our body shows the same signs as it would under sustained stress and anxiety. Not a good thing.

With guaranine or tea or natural coffee beans, our circulatory and elimination systems can easily eliminate the excess quantities of caffeine without taxing the nervous system. The additional organic matters buffer and slow down the absorption enough so that the body and deal with the toxicity. But even with natural stimulants, they must be used carefully and not in excessive amounts. It is best to stick with one portion a day of coffee or one 12 oz can of an organic energy drink or a serving of warm or cold tea.

Organic coffees don't contain any of the chemicals used in large farming operations. Whole Foods Markets has a wide variety of these.

Two energy drinks that I recommend are GURU Energy Drinks from Canada and Syzmo from the US. They are both organic, come with exclusively natural caffeine from Guarana and/or coffee. The big plus for GURU is their taste (tastes great) and the fact it doesn't have a random cocktail of added vitamins. Syzmo is excellent quality but much more expensive, and the taste needs getting used to. One of the GURU products is sweetened with Stevia (GURU Lite), which is an added bonus (see my post on Benefits of Stevia: (ref: Stevia wins over Chemicals).

In the world of teas; cold, naturally brewed beverages provide both anti-oxidants and natural caffeine. A brand I recommend highly is ITOEN, from Japan. They have some unsweetened products with a unique taste that grows on you after a while. Teas Teas

Could Coffee really be good for you? Some new studies show Coffee may help your health.

Have you been told coffee was bad for you? You may have not drank enough!

Generations of doctors and supposed health experts have been warning us of the evils of coffee. Coffee has been accused of slowing children's growth, causing cancer, and other maladies.

But a new series of medical findings has turned the tables on the myth of coffee being bad for our health. Distinguished health organizations like JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association, have shown coffee is not only innocent of causing the maladies long associated with it, but is greatly beneficial.

Among the findings:

* Caffeine, equivalent to six to eight cups of coffee consumed by a human in a day, could possibly help protect people against multiple sclerosis (MS)

* A lower risk of type 2 diabetes has been associated with daily coffee drinking.

* Coffee is associated with a decreased risk of Gallstone disease in men.

* Drinking more coffee has been associated with a significantly lower incidence of Parkinson's Disease

* Abstinence from coffee leads to "a compression of mortality rather than an increase in lifespan." I.e., if you don't drink coffee you're likely to die sooner!

But can coffee be bad for you? Coffee like juice or soda, can be bad for you if you drink it in great excess. And like peanuts, some people can't tolerate it. But for most healthy people coffee is a health beverage. People forget that coffee is, essentially, a vegetable juice. Coffee beans grown in rich soil are roasted and crushed, after which hot water filters through them to create your cup of Joe. Coffee just tastes a lot better than tomato juice.
