How great is the smell of roasted fresh coffee beans brewing as it works its way up the steps and into your bedroom? It starts to seep into your nostrils and all of a sudden you perk up a little bit. Instead of waking up grumpy, you already have a smile on your face in anticipation of the perfect cup of coffee.

It all starts with the beans. If you have lousy coffee beans, you have not shot at getting a great cup of coffee. There are hundreds of different varieties out there and it will be a matter of preference as to what you actually like. One person may rave about Jamaican Blue Mountain while Sumatra may be your favorite. It would be great if there was a simple method of figuring out, but tasting is the best way to find your favorite.

For the perfect cup of coffee, you'll want to start with whole roasted fresh coffee beans that you grind yourself. By the way, you should only buy small quantities of whole beans, maybe enough for 1 or 2 months at a time and keep them in an air tight container to preserve freshness.

If you prefer to buy your coffee on the way into work, you more than likely stop at the same place each and every day. There is no shame in this as the power of the perfect cup is something that is undeniable. Be it Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts, Wawa or McDonald's, your favorite is often a cup that you will drive miles out of your way to make sure you are getting what you want.

When you are brewing your coffee at home, the coffee maker is just as important as the coffee bean. Go cheap and you are lucky to ever truly enjoy all the flavor that your roasted fresh coffee bean has. The optimum temperature for brewing is 200 degrees and you at least want to make sure that your machine does that or close to it.

On your quest for the perfect machine, do a lot of research and don't believe everything you read. If you want an honest opinion, go to a neutral reviewing site or check out forums that are aimed at coffee lovers. Even after all of that, you are still going to want to taste a cup before you buy it. Most decent sellers will have machines of various types up and brewing so you can try the coffee from the machine.

If you are a true coffee lover, you may find that you will travel to the ends of the world to make sure you get the perfect cup of coffee. You are probably also the person that goes away on vacation and drives the wait staff crazy because there is never a cup that is good enough to satisfy your desires. It's okay, there are plenty more out there just like you!

by Matt Hellstrom

More and more consumers are realizing the need to evolve with the times to get green smart. Growing organic produce is the ultimate starting point for such environmentally friendly projects, thus the increase in the popularity of organic beverages.

The best organic coffee beans are grown in Africa. The farmers plant their coffee trees in naturally mulched and composted soil under other vegetation such as banana trees. Here the coffee plants flourish as the other vegetation provide shelter from direct sunlight and heavy rain allowing just enough light and rain through for the coffee trees to grow healthy and strong without added hormones and chemicals. Non-synthetic pesticides may only be used in terms of the organic growing organizations regulations.

Coffee beans enjoy a very large market share and are of highest value to traders with an estimated 70 Billion US Dollars trade value capacity. In previous years pricing had been manipulated and farmers were easily paid peanuts for their efforts and hard work, but with continued economic development, minimum prices for the beans have been set, counteracting the harsh effects of dips in the business cycle.

When ready for harvesting, seeds are carefully picked from the coffee trees as a tree produces a mere 2.20 pounds of coffee beans per year. The beans are soaked in water until no pulp is present around the seeds. The seeds are then dried in the sun and weighed. After the weighing, the seeds are prepared for their long journey across the world to various coffee drinking countries. The seeds are sacked and re-weighed where it's then stored in special organic produce store rooms and safe guarded until auction and final shipment is done.

A downside to organic produce is the scarcity of the products. Organic foods have a tendency to be associated with higher prices to consumers due to the products' steeper pricing in relation to conventional products. Prices are higher due to various direct and indirect influences such as low yields, higher labor requirements, business start-up financing and additional land needs.

Organic coffee farmers have to comply with strict International rules and regulations prescribed by independent organic organizations, Fair Trade and KNCU (Kilimanjaro Native Cooperative Union). Compliance with these directives entail recognition for producing and supplying high quality coffee beans of international standards, which in turn assist the farmers of organic coffee beans to tap into global markets.

Farmers of organic coffee beans and their nations make a commitment to changing their lives for the better by taking positive actions in countries often labeled as third world. By participating in farming of organic coffee beans, these farmers are helping to build up their communities, establish better health care and education opportunities as well as creating brighter economic futures.

Now who would have thought only a few years ago that anyone could order coffee online without even getting up from your chair! Long seen as the sole province of the gourmet or specialty market, exotic coffee beens from around the world are now readily available to you purchase with the click of a button.

While talking of a coffee "bean", did you know that coffee beans are in fact not beans as in a vegetable, but a cherry like fruit and the pit of the coffee cherry consist of two beans that are flat on the one side and concaved on the other? In addition, did you know that coffee beans are the second most exported product in the world?

There are indeed hundreds of flavors you can treat yourself to when you order coffee online. It is wise to note that although there are so many flavors available, it does not mean there are so many types of coffee beans. There are just two types of coffee plants, Arabica Coffee and Coffee Robusta, which are used to grow coffee for the use by the commercial coffee trade of which the Arabica Coffee plant supply 75% of the global coffee bean demand.

Surely, when you search through the sites to order coffee online, it will be clear that vast amounts of blends are available to order. Nevertheless, ask yourself the question; will you be able to imagine the taste of the coffee if you have only a description to read? If you find yourself in a specialist coffee shop, you smell the different flavours of the variety of coffee blends and can determine in a sense how it will taste like. But when you order coffee online, all you have is your imagination and the description.

Due to the popularity of selling coffee online, you can be assured that when you order coffee online, you will be able to select from the best coffees available. These coffee merchants are well aware of the taste preferences of their clientele and do their best to accurately describe each blend or flavor and typical only roast from green beens just before sending out your order.

As if this trend of ordering coffee online needs any helping hand on the marketing thereof, most online coffee shops ship each day using express or two day mail and frequently offer discounts on the first order you place with them. Frequent buyers are rewarded with additional savings when they order coffee online.

When you order coffee online, it would be safe to say that you are probably looking for blends that you just can't find in your regular supermarket. Even if you had access to a retail specialty shop, you'd expect to pay premium prices. That is where online shopping shines, you have the luxury of shopping around for the lowest price, which will generally be well bleow what you'd have to pay at a retail establishment.

by Matt Hellstrom

A quality cup of coffee according to the experts is only as good as the coffee equipment used to brew it. Although the quality of coffee does also depend on a few other variables too. For instance, the amount of time elapsed since the beans were ground, and roasted, as well as the quality of the actual coffee bean will affect the taste.

Freshly roasted and ground coffee is a great deal better than coffee which has been ground and allowed to grow stale. So you will need a coffee grinder to get the best possible quality out of your coffee. A coffee bean roaster would be great if you can manage it. A lesser quality coffee bean which is freshly ground is much better than a high quality coffee which is ground and allowed to go stale.

Coffee grinder equipment comes in several different models, obviously by several different manufacturers, and in order to get the best possible cup of coffee, you have to have freshly ground coffee. A coffee shop should definitely keep one grinder for decaf and another for regular coffee. Decaf coffee drinkers are not going to appreciate a rush of caffeine from their morning cup of coffee.

The be all and end all of coffee equipment has got to be the espresso machine. These are manufactured by many coffee equipment companies and are designed to make espresso the correct way at home.

There are basically three types of espresso machine, the semi-automatic, automatic or "super" automatic. While most people have a preference for the automatic espresso machine, this is because they are able to be programmed to cut off a shot within a certain period of time and timing is what makes for a good espresso. Twenty three seconds seems to be the agreed up limit for making an espresso, and this is often difficult to judge with semi-automatic coffee equipment.

Super automatic espresso makers do everything for you, they grind the beans, tamp and pull the espresso shot, switch off and in most instances even get rid of the used coffee grounds. Not only are they high tech and works of art, these coffee machines are a source of fascination for espresso lovers everywhere, and they also cost a great deal of money. However for the coffee fanatic, price is no object when it comes to high quality coffee equipment.

Always buy a machine that is easy to have serviced locally and has parts available. It is easy to get drawn into the glamor of "looks" but when your espresso coffee equipment breaks down, you need to be able to get repairs done as quickly as possible, preferably before the withdrawal symptoms start!

The coffee espresso machine seems simple enough, push a button and instant espresso or cappuccino. The history of the espresso machine though was anything but easy for the people who put their whole heart and soul into making it work. The word espresso is defined simply as coffee made by forcing steam through finely ground coffee beans. Some would say this sounds simple enough, but after you ponder about all the different techniques that had to be developed to allow this to happen; well it's certain you will change your opinion. The espresso machine began its journey about 100 years ago.

The first official coffee espresso machine comes to us from France. It was created by a gentleman named Louis Bernard Rabaut in 1822. The machine was a simple contraption that allowed steam and water to flow through a filter lined with fresh coffee beans. Mr. Edward Loy Sel de Santias showed his version of the espresso machine at the Paris Exposition in 1855. He impressed the crowd by being able to brew up 2,000 cups of what was then called fast coffee in an hour.

Luiggi Bezzera of Italy brought his espresso machine into the lime light in 1901. His machine served the same purpose of Rabauts invention which was created 79 years earlier.

Desiderio Pavoni purchased the patent for this new invention in 1903 and began making this contraption through his company in 1905. Americans received their first taste of this foam coffee in 1927. Americans were not impressed with the burnt flavor the machine gave to the coffee beans. In 1938, the taste problem of the espresso was fixed by adding a piston pump to the design. The pressure the spring lever applied to the beans changed the taste to a more enjoyable taste that we all enjoy now.

M. Faema supplied the finishing element to the evolving espresso machine in 1961 by adding an electric pump which would change the way we drink coffee all together. With this advancement to the espresso machine the way was paved to have the machines introduced to households worldwide. In 1991, the first ever espresso machine was able to be purchased by ordinary households.

The next time that you get that good old cup of of espresso or cappuccino in the morning just take a second and reminisce. Try to envision the pioneers whose inventions paved the way to make a simple cup of caf latte possible. It's hard to think about all the hard work and effort that is put into one simple cup of coffee.

A good deal of dedication and discipline was put into play to allow this simple creation to evolve into what it is today. The final result has triggered an American favorite as evidenced by the numerous specialty coffee bars springing up everywhere. We now can enjoy this delicious crema coffee all at the push of a button.

People who don't know the many benefits of coffee beans often want to know why people buy coffee beans in the first place when you can purchase a jar of ordinary coffee. A can of decent coffee is just as good, they say. But is it really?

by Matt Hellstrom

People who don't know the many benefits of coffee beans often want to know why people buy coffee beans in the first place when you can purchase a jar of ordinary coffee. A can of decent coffee is just as good, they say. But is it really?

What many people don't know is that there are more than twenty different kinds of coffee beans all with differing tastes and flavors. However, coffee beans can divided into two main types. Avid coffee drinkers might already be familiar with the many different kinds of coffee beans that can be purchased.

Coffea Arabica is the scientific name of a type of coffee bean that makes up between sixty to seventy percent of the world's consumption. This is also the type that most people like out of the many other types. This type of coffee bean is also very expensive largely because of the strict growing conditions required to grow this type of coffee. These plants need high altitude to thrive and you should be at least around 3,000 feet above sea level. In addition the temperature should not exceed the low-70s degrees Fahrenheit range.

The less popular type of coffee beans make up around thirty-forty percent of the world's coffee consumption. Scientists call this type of coffee 'Coffea Canephora' and is commonly called Robusta. This type of coffee bean is considered inferior quality as compared to the much loved coffea Arabica and is hardly sold separately. This type of coffee bean can be grown at temperatures of around 85 degrees Fahrenheit and almost anywhere. However this type of coffee bean is a bit bitter and most people don't like the bitter taste associated with this type of bean.

This lower quality, somewhat bitter coffee Robusta is often used as filler coffee beans with coffee Arabica to reduce the overall cost of the better tasting and more expensive Arabica coffee. A majority of times when you do purchase coffea Arabica it is mixed with Robusta.

Keep in mind that a cup of coffee is only as good as the coffee bean. Coffee made from freshly ground coffee beans of medium quality will outshine even premium ground coffee that has been sitting on the shelf too long. After you buy coffee beans make sure to store them in air tight container.

While it may be easier and cheaper to grab a big jar of ground coffee, ask yourself whether you're actually enjoying the taste of your coffee. If the answer is no, you should probably consider whether it's better to buy coffee beans that are fresh and grind them as you need. Most coffee grinders are reasonably priced and can, along with fresh coffee beans, can make the difference between a great cup of coffee and a stale, unpleasant tasting brew.

These days everyone drinks gourmet flavored coffee. With so much variety available how do you know what to buy? Surely with this many flavors and blends, there must be at least one for everyone. Are you conservative? Thinking you would like to make your own gourmet coffee at home? Or would you rather indulge and let someone wait on you for a change?

"Kaffa" or coffee originated in Ethiopia. Visitors brought it to other parts of Africa, and eventually the entire world had to have their coffee. Nowadays, coffee growing is a tremendous industry with different areas of the globe all competing to meet the world's demand for coffee.

Think about what your preferences are. Pungent? Fruity? Do you love mocha? How your coffee is prepared may be important to you as well. You may enjoy new blends and flavors or you may be a straight up dark roast person. Keep searching, you will find something that you like, so don't be afraid to experiment with different kinds of gourment flavored coffee.

A trend has begun, and continues to grow with gourmet coffee companies. Many are contributing to charitable organizations. In keeping with the current concerns on rainforest preservation this seems to be one cause that has benefited greatly.

There are machines available everywhere for brewing gourmet flavored coffee. Whether you are looking for an espresso machine for your business, or a new single cup maker for your own personal use, you can find it. You can grind your own beans whether in large quantity or for home use as specialty coffee grinders are pretty easy to come by.

From it's early roots coffee was a reason for people to get together and socialize. These days, it's rare to find a busy neighborhood that doesn't have a gourmet coffee shop. If you stop by one, chances are you'll see a friend or neighbor sipping a cup of freshly brewed gourmet flavored coffee.

Gourmet coffee is a perfect compliment to pastry and dessert. It is just about always offered at the end of a meal. Whether mocha, Irish cream, Cappuccino or espresso, whether with cream and sugar, skim milk or black, gourmet coffee cannot be beat. It seems that gourmet flavored coffee is here to stay.

Most people are so used to the bitter taste of coffee, even when prepared using freshly ground coffee beans, that they don't realize what a sublime experience a cup of freshly brewed coffee from just-roasted coffee beans can be. Sadly, even those expensive gourmet whole coffee beans you purchased weeks ago might not meet the taste test. That being said, did you know you can easily roast your own coffee beans at home with a coffee bean roaster just like the pros?

Within a day or two after being roasted, coffee beans start to lose their flavor and tantalizing smell. Storing your freshly roasted coffee beans in an air tight container helps somewhat, but won't prevent them from developing the bitterness or even rancid taste we've come to associate with the usual store-bought whole coffee beans. On the other hand, upscale coffee bars know that roasting green coffee beans in small batches as needed is what keeps bringing their customers back.

If you're a coffee enthusiast, you'll be pleased to know how quick and easy it is to roast your own coffee beans at home. There's a favorite expression among coffee lovers, that life's too short for bad coffee. Truer words were never spoken, especially after you've experienced the flavor of coffee prepared from freshly roasted gourmet coffee beans.

There are people who swear by the stovetop crank style popcorn maker. But that's a lot of work and may not produce the even roasting and brightness of flavor that a coffee bean roaster machine can deliver. These days, home coffee roasters come in two popular types: fluid bed roasters and radiant drum roasters

Most people will be happy to start off with the fluid bed roaster. These are easy to use and clean and work somewhat like a hot air popcorn popper. Using heated air, the coffee beans are circulated within a roasting chamber for even and quick roasting. Most fluid bed coffee bean roasters have a glass roasting chamber that you can see the beans as they roast and check to see if they are roasted to your liking.

For those who enjoy a more hands-on professional coffee roasting experience, the radiant heat drum roaster may be a better choice. The quality of the freshly roasted bean using a drum coffee bean roaster parallels that of the professional roaster. Be aware though, that many machines of this type can emit a lot of smoke while roasting, so proper ventiliation might be required.

Coffee bean roasters come in many sizes and styles and range in price from under $100 to nearly $1,000, all depending on the amount of beans that you want to roast at any given time. You can find coffee bean roasters in retail sites and stores all around the country as well as online stores.

All coffee, regardless of where it is grown has to undergo a similar process to shape it into the gourmet coffee we all know and love.

What really makes a difference to the flavor of gourmet coffee is the climate it is grown in, the elevation, the cultivar and even the pesticides used to protect the coffee crop. Then of course there is the roasting process, this is an integral part of creating a true gourmet coffee, and there is nothing quite as good as freshly roasted and ground coffee.

While it is difficult for the average person to roast their own coffee beans, unless they are a master coffee roaster! You can't just set them in the oven and hope for the best!

While we are speaking about gourmet coffee, one of the most difficult coffee beans to obtain are "Jamaican Blue Mountain". This is because of its rich taste and perfect aroma, however due to the hurricanes experienced in the Gulf of Mexico; they are the hardest to come by. Jamaican Blue Mountain is revered the world over as among the best tasting coffee, and this product is the definitive gourmet coffee.

Wholesale gourmet coffee beans are not easy to settle on just one variety; there are more than 6000 known blends world-wide and these are all created from a small pool of 25 cultivars. By not easy to come by, we mean not easy to know which is the best to choose! Basically if you choose a coffee blend with Either Robusta or Arabica coffee beans (unless you can get your hands on Jamaican Blue Mountain), you will be making a good choice.
